A Berea education is all about giving students what they need to succeed. That means that on top of their chosen career path, they also need to learn how to make smart choices with money. To help get our students to financial wellness and proficiency, Dr. Nancy Sowers, the chair of Berea’s Department of Economics and Business, teamed up with Dr. Collis Robinson, Berea’s Dean of Labor. Their efforts created MoneyWi$e, Berea’s own institution-specific financial wellness program.

At Berea College, we take pride in seeing every one of our students embark on their life’s journeys. But it’s always especially heartwarming when two Bereans decide to travel together. On a study abroad trip last year, right before beginning their trek down an ancient pilgrimage road in Spain, Catherine ’26 and David ’26 also started another, even more exciting journey.

To thrive in tomorrow’s job market, students at Berea College need experience with tomorrow’s technology. This past summer, the Berea College Physics department began a special project to help students get hands-on, in-depth experience with how solar panels work. Through the Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Program (URCPP), and with funding from the Rayburn Solar Energy Endowment, Dr. Troy Messina, Dr. Tyler Maxwell ’13, and three students—Ryan ’26, Hayes ’27, and Alex ’28—built the equipment to manufacture small solar panels right here at the College.

Berea’s Historic Boone Tavern Hotel & Restaurant has been hosting visitors since its establishment in 1909. As guests’ needs have evolved over time, Boone Tavern has eagerly adapted to meet and exceed them. The building’s last renovation took place over 15 years ago, making it the perfect time to reimagine the space. Now, visitors can finally experience Crafted at Boone Tavern. As Boone Tavern enters its next chapters, it does so with a reinvigorated spirit born of the hard work and artistry of Berea’s Craft students, and the generosity of those who believe in them.
